ABOUT GURC-MIDWEST
John A. Logan College (JALC) is pleased it has been selected by Gallaudet University in 2010 to be the home of the Gallaudet University Regional Center (GURC) for the Midwest Region. John A. Logan College is located in Southern Illinois. This region includes Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
The goal of the Gallaudet University Regional Center is to provide a regional connection to Gallaudet University, its educational programs and its community. The center will offer extension courses, training workshops, and technical assistance to address the educational, transition, and professional development needs of deaf and hard of hearing people from birth through adulthood.
In partnership with Gallaudet University, GURCs offer courses for deaf and hard of hearing people, their families, and the professionals who work with them. Courses provide opportunities to study with recognized experts in such fields as American Sign Language Linguistics, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, and Interpreting. These courses are provided through the GURCs, often in collaboration with sponsoring agencies serving deaf and hearing communities. Schools for deaf students, special education school districts, interpreter training programs, or professional organizations can be sponsoring agencies.
